Rate of South Caroline Foreclosures Has Decreased

by Danny Gibson on February 18, 2008

Here is some relieving news for South Carolina homeowners: the rate of South Carolina foreclosures has actually decreased. Although it is not something that you can have a party for but the truth is that rise in the rate of real estate foreclosures across the nation has shaken the economy.

South Carolina

The rate of foreclosure filings in SC has been below the national average. The top cities that did manage to record a high rate of foreclosure include Charleston, Columbia, Georgetown, Lexington, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, and Spartanburg. Some of the counties in Columbia as well as Greenville offered potentially profitable deals to investors who were on a look out for South Carolina foreclosure homes.

In a recent event, the South Carolina Association of Community Development Corporations (SCACDC) established a strategic partnership with South Carolina Legal Services, Family Services, Inc., NeighborWorks America, South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. The entire process was initiated to launch of a program that will benefit homeowners who might become the next victim of South Carolina foreclosures.

The main aim of this initiative is to impart necessary education to the homeowners regarding the various options they have in the pre-foreclosure period and how they can effectively prevent or avoid foreclosures. The initiative will also help homeowners expecting foreclosures to take counseling and help from different institutions that have the necessary resources to help these distressed homeowners.

There was a training conducted on Wednesday, December 12th for certified housing counselors at the Trident One Stop Career Center situated at 1930 Hanahan Road in North Charleston between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. These initiatives and training programs are being conducted to put a stop on the rising number of South Carolina foreclosure homes.
