Foreclosure Rescue Bill Faces More Delays

With the nation suffering from the high national foreclosure rate, it is only right that the federal government is busy looking for a long-term solution to this crisis. Among its efforts is the foreclosure rescue bill that will allow troubled homeowners to re-finance their existing mortgages and avail of government-backed loans instead.

Although the said bill will provide relief to thousands of families, its approval has been further and further delayed because of debates between the Senate and the Congress.

The mortgage rescue legislation has very little chance of getting approved in Congress especially considering that there are lawmakers who feel that the government does not have enough funds to support the housing bill. In addition, the White House is also threatening to veto the housing bill unless key portions are re-written. These include overhauling of the Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae regulations and the purchase and rehabilitation of foreclosure homes by local governments.

On the other hand, supporters of the foreclosure rescue bill will try to iron out these differences in order to address the opposition’s concerns.

Although experts believe that a broad housing program will be implemented by the end of this summer, there is still a long way to go in order to somehow curb the increasing number of foreclosure properties. The approval of the housing rescue bill will only be one of the steps needed to be taken.

As the debate on between the legislators continues, more and more troubled homeowners are facing the possibility of losing their home to foreclosure very soon. Even non-profit organizations and alliances that have been providing foreclosure help and assistance are becoming overwhelmed with the continuing increase in mortgage defaults.

It seems that only a small percentage of homeowners receiving foreclosure assistance are able to work out their mortgage problems. Thus, a legislation to provide an immediate and long-term relief is really needed badly.
