A Mom’s Act of Kindness at Foreclosure Auction

Ms. Mock has become a national celebrity after she did an extraordinary act of kindness for 38-year-old Tracy Orr, a woman she just met. ABC’s “Good Morning America” and a CNN show have featured her and celebrity hosts such as Oprah, Dr. Phil and Ellen have invited her to their shows.

Mock went to an auction in Dallas to accompany her son who was buying his own house. While her son was busy signing documents for his first house, Mock started a conversation with Orr who was seated beside her. Orr cried as she related to Mock that she was not there to bid on a house, but to say goodbye to her foreclosed house. Instinctively, when Mock realized that Orr’s house was being auctioned, she raised her hand and bid for the house. Mock got the house at $30,000.

Orr bought the house, located in Pottsboro, in 2004 on an $80,000 mortgage when she was working for the U.S. Postal Service. One month after she took out the loan, she lost her job. In the first quarter of this year, her home was foreclosed.

Mock, who runs a rock yard with her sons, says that she will take out a loan on one of her dump trucks to pay the $30,000 and will work out a plan with Orr on how she can pay her the loan.

When asked why she bought a house she has not seen for a woman she has just met, she replied that Orr needed help.

Orr said that what Mock did for her was not only the return of her home, but also the return of her confidence in herself.

Orr’s foreclosed house is just one of more than 4,200 foreclosed homes in the Dallas area scheduled for auctions in November. According to Foreclosure Listing Service, over 46,000 homes are in danger of being foreclosed in 2008.
