Houston TX Foreclosures: Answer to Shrinking New Home Supply

9 May 2008

In a survey conducted by national consulting company Metrostudy, it seems like the supply of new homes in Houston is fast dwindling. The reason behind such activity is that new home sales seem to be outpacing new home construction.

Houston, Texas

The said survey revealed that during the first three months of this year, the housing supply starts have dropped by 33 percent to 7,049 while builders have closed on over 8,485 new homes for the same period. Also, it would take roughly 2.7 months for all finished homes for sale to be sold based on the most recent sales activity. For real estate experts, this only means that the housing market in Houston has become quite stable.

Of course, there is always the issue of affordability. With the new home sales quickly outpacing construction, it is inevitable that builders will no longer be giving huge discounts. The logic behind this is simple – shrinking supply and increasing demand.

For buyers looking for a property in this city, you might want to consider Houston TX foreclosures. You will find that these homes are much more affordable. True, you might need to spend much on repair and renovation but considering that they are usually sold way below their market values; you will still end up with a large savings.
