An Effective Policy To Fight Maryland Foreclosures
26 February 2008There is good news for Marylanders this year as homeowners might get to see a drop in Maryland foreclosures. So far there have been a high number of Maryland foreclosure homes in different counties like Baltimore, Oakland, Cambridge, Annapolis, Salisbury, Columbia, Bethesda and Silver Spring. The high rate of foreclosures has resulted due to the fact that homeowners have been unable to pay off the mortgage payments on time.

In a comparison report by Mortgage Bankers Association, it has been seen that the number of homes that went into foreclosure were less than the number of homes bought. Last year, in the period between July and September there were reports of at least 6,300 homes being filed and were available for buying through foreclosure lists.
During this period, in an effort to put a stop to the high rate of real estate foreclosures, various lending companies got together and agreed upon different types of repayment plans as well as loan modification for homeowners in distress. These companies catered to almost 5,800 borrowers.
The number of bank foreclosures across the nation rose to 60% percent as against the number of borrowers who got help from companies or lenders. There was a huge difference of approximately 150,000 homes. This huge difference has been fueled by most of the real estate markets that underwent the housing slump like Florida and California. In these states the real estate foreclosures outnumbered every workout plan by a ratio of 2:1.
Last summer, Maryland saw 6 out of every 10 home loans hit the road and thus gave rise to the high number of Maryland foreclosures. The Mortgage Bankers Association in Maryland has stated that this year they are going to fight back by working on some major steps to help the borrowers in distress so that they can bring down the number of Maryland foreclosure homes. This certainly sounds good!
